Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the looting and vandalism of an accidented truck along the Calabar–Itu Highway.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, in Uyo.

According to the statement, the arrest followed credible intelligence provided by a tricycle operator regarding the activities of suspected vandals at an accident scene in Afaha along the highway.

Police operatives were said to have swiftly mobilised to the location on May 10, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m., leading to the arrest of one Adamu Hamza, 19, a native of Maiduguri, who was found in possession of four suspected stolen truck tyres.

Further investigation led to the arrest of the tricycle operator, Anthony James, who allegedly conveyed the stolen items from the scene, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police warned criminal elements against exploiting accident scenes for vandalism and theft, stressing that the Command would intensify intelligence-driven policing and surveillance to safeguard lives and property.

He also commended members of the public for providing timely information and urged residents to remain law-abiding and security conscious.
