The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation exercise was held at the party’s headquarters in Bichi Local Government Area, with thousands of party members from the 13 local government areas of the senatorial district in attendance. Officials of the APC national headquarters and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also present.
At about 2:20 p.m., the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee for the Kano North Senatorial Primary Election, Hon. Shehu Isa Direba, called for the affirmation of Senator Barau as the party’s candidate, which was unanimously endorsed by party members through a voice vote.
Similarly, the Chairman of the APC National Assembly Primary Elections Committee for Kano State, Hon. Musa Yahaya, sought the endorsement of the delegates, who also unanimously affirmed Barau as the party’s candidate for the National Assembly election.
Speaking after the exercise, the leader of the INEC monitoring team, Abdulrahman Haruna, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and orderly conduct of the process.
In his remarks, Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, commended the conduct of the exercise. Represented by his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, the governor expressed confidence that APC would secure victory in the 2027 elections.
He said the people of Kano North would overwhelmingly vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Yusuf, Senator Barau and other APC candidates, describing the party as united and strong in the state.
Responding, Senator Barau thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and assured them of continued effective representation. He also commended President Tinubu for his leadership and Governor Yusuf for efforts to reposition Kano State.
Barau urged the people of Kano State to remain steadfast in their support for the APC, calling on voters to turn out en masse in the 2027 general elections to ensure victory for all party candidates at federal, state and local government levels.
