Former Military Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to unite in the fight against rising insecurity across the country, stressing that ending terrorism and other criminal activities requires collaboration between citizens, security agencies, and all levels of government.
In a statement issued to mark his 84th birthday anniversary, Abdulsalami expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Nigeria.
He said the recent death of retired Major General Abubakar Rabe and others who have fallen victim to insecurity highlights the urgent need for decisive action.
The former Head of State warned that the politicisation of security matters, as well as the spread of fake news and misinformation on social media, is worsening the challenges faced by security agencies and emboldening criminal elements.
He urged Nigerians to set aside religious, ethnic, and political differences and support security agencies in their efforts to restore peace, stability, and national unity.
Abdulsalami further emphasized that collective responsibility and truthful communication remain key tools in overcoming the country’s security challenges, calling for renewed patriotism and cooperation among all citizens.
