Eight basketball teams have qualified for final stage of Nigerian Premier basketball league to determine the overall winner who represent Nigeria in FIBA Africa continental championship.
The league, organized by the Nigerian Basketball Federation NBBF led by Musa Kida had already concluded phase one and two of the league in different states of the Federation.
The Savannah Conference which held Minna, the Niger state capital produced Aso Sky Hawks of Abuja as the overall winner, followed by City Chiefs of Benue while Kano Pillars and 313 Warriors took third and fourth positions respectively.
However, in the Atlantic Conferences in Enugu centre Mak Town Flyers came first, Royal Hoopers of Port Harcourt, Rivers state second while Hoops and Read of Lagos and Lagos Raptors secured third and fourth positions.
Speaking on Kano Pillars qualification, the team manager and former head coach of National basketball team, Coach Sani Ahmad applauded the organisers for their commitment and dedication towards the success and hitch free conferences.
Coach Sani Ahmad then pledged that with the new leadership of Kano state sports commission led by Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Babangida, the Pyramids side will definitely make a positive impact during the final 8.
He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his unflinching support morally, urging him to address the team’s financial challenge with a view to maintain the state high profile as far as basketball is concerned in the country and Africa in general.
It could be recalled that despite the financial difficulty experience by the state darling team, Kano Pillars basketball team had to put that behind to make the state proud at the end of second phase of competition in Minna.
