The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has conducted a security appraisal at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil and intensified patrols along the Kano–Maiduguri Road under the Inspector-General of Police’s Handshake Patrol initiative.
Bakori, during a strategic meeting with the Commandant of the academy, Patrick A. Atayero, assessed existing security measures, including perimeter security, access control and emergency response arrangements. He also discussed improved collaboration on intelligence sharing, joint exercises and rapid response operations.
The police commissioner commended the commandant for maintaining high standards of discipline, professionalism and internal security within the academy, describing the institution as a strategic national asset for training future police officers.
He assured the academy of the command’s continued support to safeguard its personnel and facilities.
Following the visit, Bakori led a high-level operational patrol along the Kano–Maiduguri Road and the Kano–Jigawa border corridor to strengthen the Handshake Patrol strategy introduced by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The initiative is aimed at improving inter-command collaboration and preventing criminals from exploiting state boundaries.
He directed officers to enhance surveillance and maintain rapid response capabilities along the corridor, noting that the patrols would be sustained and reviewed periodically based on prevailing security threats to protect lives, property and commercial activities.
