The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sen. David Mark, GCON, has expressed sadness over the death of former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest public servants.
Mark, in a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, recalled that he served alongside the deceased in the administration of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, where Alhaji served as Minister of Finance while he was Minister of Communications.
He described the late Alhaji as a patriot whose tenure in government was characterised by professionalism, integrity, fiscal discipline and commitment to Nigeria’s economic development. According to him, the deceased brought exceptional competence, wisdom and honesty to public service, leaving enduring contributions to the country’s economic management.
The former Senate President also described Alhaji as a humble, compassionate and selfless leader who devoted his life to serving the nation and humanity. He said Nigeria had lost one of its most experienced administrators and a voice of reason whose counsel was consistently guided by the national interest.
Mark condoled with the Alhaji family, the Sokoto State Government and people, as well as Nigerians, over the loss. He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
