Taraba NAWOJ Receives ₦500,000 Grant at 26th National Council on Women Affairs

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Taraba State Chapter, has received a ₦500,000 Enterprise Support Grant from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.

The cheque was presented on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, by the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim during the ongoing 26th National Council on Women Affairs, Child Advancement and Social Development in Jalingo.

The grant is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to promote women’s economic empowerment, strengthen livelihoods and support women-led enterprises and organisations across the country.

Receiving the grant on behalf of NAWOJ Taraba, the State Chairperson, Comrade Janet Audu, who was represented by the Association’s Secretary, Doris Filbert, expressed appreciation to the Minister and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for the support.

Audu described the gesture as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s recognition of the significant role women play in national development, particularly women journalists who contribute to public enlightenment, advocacy and the promotion of issues affecting women, children and other vulnerable groups.

She assured the ministry that the grant would be put to productive use to support initiatives aimed at strengthening the association and improving the capacity and welfare of its members.

The 26th National Council on Women Affairs, being held in Jalingo, is focused on strengthening families, advancing the care economy and promoting an inclusive social protection system for women, children, families and other vulnerable groups.

According to the Chairperson,  the presentation of the grant to NAWOJ Taraba underscores the importance of empowering women and supporting organisations that contribute to social development and community advancement.

She therefore expressed the appreciation of NAWOJ Taraba to the Minister and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for the support.
