Kano Police Unveil Strategic Roadmap to Strengthen Security

The Kano State Police Command has unveiled a strategic roadmap aimed at strengthening security, enhancing operational effectiveness and sustaining peace across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Sunday at a strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Squadron Commanders and Heads of Departments at the Police Headquarters, Bompai, Kano.

Bakori said the meeting was convened to review the security situation in the state and reposition the command for more effective service delivery.

He commended the operational commanders and personnel for their dedication and professionalism, particularly their sustained efforts in crime prevention, prompt response to distress calls and improved engagement with communities.

The commissioner said the relative peace and stability being enjoyed in Kano were largely attributable to the teamwork and commitment of police commanders and their personnel.

After receiving operational briefings from the various formations, Bakori directed commanders to intensify proactive policing operations to check the activities of criminal elements and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

He also ordered sustained visibility patrols, stop-and-search operations and close monitoring of identified criminal hotspots across the state.

The commissioner directed commanders to strengthen intelligence gathering through community partnerships, Police Community Relations Committees (PCRC) and credible informants to facilitate swift responses to security threats.

He further called for deeper collaboration between the police and other sister security agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to security management in the state.

Bakori also directed Area, Tactical and Squadron Commanders to adopt the “management by working around” approach, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

He said commanders must personally supervise their personnel in the field, provide on-the-spot guidance and ensure discipline, professionalism and prompt response to emerging security challenges.

The commissioner charged the commanders to provide effective leadership while ensuring that police officers uphold human rights, respect the rule of law and maintain the highest standards of professionalism.

He warned officers against corruption, extortion, abuse of office and other misconduct capable of undermining public confidence in the police.

Bakori said officers found culpable of such offences would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action in accordance with the Police Act and Regulations.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the people-oriented policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police and assured residents of the command’s determination to protect lives and property.

The commissioner urged members of the public to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing crime and maintaining peace across the state.
