Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has called on Nigerians to embrace unity, love and mutual understanding as essential ingredients for national development.
Yusuf made the call while delivering his address at the 66th Independence Anniversary celebration held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
He described Independence Day as a moment to celebrate Nigeria’s sovereignty and honour the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and other patriots who worked to sustain the country’s unity.
The governor said that since the inauguration of his administration three years ago, his government had prioritised education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture and housing, among other critical sectors.
He said that as the administration entered its fourth year, greater emphasis would be placed on completing ongoing projects and improving the welfare of the people.
Yusuf noted that his administration had invested substantially in the education sector to improve the quality of learning and address existing challenges.
He said the recruitment of additional teachers was among the measures taken by the government to bridge the manpower gap and strengthen the state’s education system.
In the health sector, the governor said his administration had continued to invest in healthcare delivery, including the rehabilitation of health facilities, as part of efforts to improve access to quality medical services.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering development projects and policies that would improve the living conditions of residents across the state.
The governor urged the people of Kano and Nigerians at large to remain united, patriotic and committed to the collective responsibility of building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
