Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and promoting national unity, peace and development.
Yusuf stated this while addressing corps members during the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Kusalla Dam, Karaye Local Government Area of Kano State.
The governor, represented by the Director of Special Services, Alhaji Salisu Hassan Kofar Mata, congratulated the corps members on successfully completing their academic programmes and joining the national service scheme.
He described the NYSC as an important platform for fostering national integration, exposing young Nigerians to diverse cultures and promoting sustainable development across the country.
Yusuf urged the corps members to take full advantage of the orientation course, which includes lectures, paramilitary drills, leadership training, skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development.
He also encouraged them to participate actively in all camp activities and abide by the rules and regulations guiding the orientation exercise.
The governor commended the NYSC management and other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the scheme, while assuring the corps members of the state government’s continued support.
Earlier, the NYSC Kano State Coordinator, Hajia Halima A. Abubakar, disclosed that a total of 2,157 corps members, comprising 1,080 males and 1,077 females, had registered for the orientation exercise.
Abubakar said the scheme had continued to play a significant role in promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence over the past five decades.
She explained that the orientation course was designed to prepare corps members for the challenges of national service through leadership training, paramilitary drills, skills acquisition and other activities.
The coordinator urged the corps members to participate fully in all camp programmes and comply with the rules and regulations to ensure a successful orientation exercise.
She expressed optimism that the corps members’ commitment and dedication would contribute to a smooth orientation exercise and a productive service year.
Abubakar also expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government, security agencies and other collaborating organisations for their support towards the success of the programme.
The participating agencies include the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Man O’ War and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
