The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen Hyundai vehicle and handed it over to its owner.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Kano.
He said the vehicle, a golden-coloured Hyundai with registration number Lagos AA 444 BL, was stolen on Oct. 25 from St. Thomas Church, Airport Road, Kano.
Kiyawa said the owner, Mr Uchenna Emmanuel of Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano, reported that he parked the vehicle at the church at about 11:00 a.m. to attend Sunday service.
He said the owner discovered that the vehicle had been stolen by unknown persons after the service and reported the incident to the police at about 3:30 p.m.
According to him, operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS), acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately commenced an intelligence-led operation to track the vehicle.
“The stolen vehicle was found parked inside the premises of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) on Oct. 26.
“Operatives laid an ambush to arrest the person who parked the vehicle, but nobody came forward to claim it,” he said.
Kiyawa said the vehicle was subsequently recovered on Oct. 28 and taken to the SIS office for investigation.
He said the vehicle had been handed over to the owner, who commended the police for their prompt response, professionalism and commitment to duty.
The police spokesman quoted the owner as urging motorists to adopt necessary security measures, particularly when parking in public places such as churches, markets and hospitals.
He said the Commissioner of Police appreciated residents for their support and cooperation, while advising vehicle owners to install security devices, including trackers and steering or pedal locks.
The command also urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles were properly locked and secured at all times.
Kiyawa said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, adding that investigation into the incident continued.
