By The Concern APC Youths (CAY)
Our Dear APC Elders,
This open letter is necessitated by issues of urgent importance with the political happenings on the forthcoming convention of our dear party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Our dear elders of the party, we, at CAY weren’t exactly born with talents for political correctness, so we will like to plead your permission to pay you the courtesy of being blunt.
Before we continue writing about the subject of this piece, we will like to categorically state that the Concern APC Youths, under which auspices we are writing this article, remains a group of youths concern only with safeguarding the ethics and tradition of our great party, the APC
And as young progressives of this great party, nothing break our hearts like the kind of ongoing politicking we see on the election of EXCOs of our party especially the chairmanship seat, which we think should have been an easy decision for everyone to make looking at the front runners, nobody needs a soothsayer to identify the right man for the job.
It is therefore sad and worrying to see even the most credible elder of our party has now turned into a something we can hardly recognize and a man of integrity in the party has turned into an agent of calumny campaign – all for their selfish political interest. It is an established fact that the APC is in crisis.
Like one of the elders from the South-West rightly pointed out a few days ago in an interview, “our great party, the APC is embroiled in a crisis, which if not swiftly handled may lead to its destruction. Worse still, prolonged instability in the APC may complicate the many challenges the country is facing and serve as huge distraction to governance or the 2023 election”.
“The reason for the present crises is rooted in the ambitions of many powerful members of the party starting with the forthcoming APC Convention. And to be clear there is nothing wrong with people having ambitions what is dangerous is to put the party at risk for one’s ambition”.
The above summation is a very good delineation of the situation of the party. Everybody wants to be at the helm of the party affairs even those who have no business with party leadership. And we all know, those who can do the job and those who can’t, I eat of the elders to shelve their ambitions and support the right candidate, they choose to make this an open media fight for the big seat in the party.
No instance clearly delineates the above claims like the events of the last few weeks, where a front runner in the race for the chairmanship position of the party, a man who has never lost an election in 44 years, a reputable man of honour and integrity, a man who is a recognised bridge builder and a true party leader has been soaked with lots of falsehood from his own party men.
The APC needs a rescue, the party needs redemption, the party deserves a balanced, experienced, tested, trusted and a faithful hand.
The party needs a team player and a unifying leadership, and above all the party needs stability and there is no better man to bring or give all of these other than former governor of Nasarawa state and serving Senator, Nasarawa North, Senator Abdullahi Adamu (Turakin Keffi).
Our dear elders, we are not saying it is wrong for any elder of the party to come out and seek any position in the APC – be it Senator Adamu or any other person constitutionally allowed to seek electoral office. And we believe it is for the good of the party for many aspirants to come out to seek party offices in a free, fair and credible convention process.
But when a superior candidate, whose record and integrity supersedes all, a serial political winner and a big bridge builder, a leader that will bring harmony, cooperation and progress to the party especially as we approach the 2023 polls comes out to seek a seat, it is only fair and right for every right thinking APC member to support his cause.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu as a founding father of the party himself, fully understood the precepts, the mechanisms and constitution of the party and that he knew the ethos, the tradition and culture built during the formation of the party. Only a man like that will guarantee peace and progress for our great party.
On this note, we wish to call on all members, elders, youths and women of our great party to as a matter of urgency in the issue of APC Convention support the good cause of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as a bridge builder for the good and progress of the APC come 2023 and beyond. There is no time and no place for sentiments – our deciding factor should be merit, credibility and honour come March 26.
Thank you for your time our elders.
God bless the APC!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
