KNSG presents 3million Naira award to best performing kano student during young scientist presidential award

Kano state government has presented a cash prize, of three million naira to a student Suwidi Sani, for his excellent performance at the just concluded young Nigerian scientists presidential award.

Suwidi an indegene of Nasarawa local government area of the state, emerged 7th and the only northerner to be among the first ten at the award.

Presenting the cash prize,Kano state commissioner for higher education Dr. Mariya Mahmud Bunkure explained that the young man had gained admission to study MBBS at Bayero University Kano after scoring 303 in the joint admission marticulation examination (JAMB).

She maintained that apart from the three million naira,the state government had also offered to sponsor his post graduate studies after completing his first degree.

The commissioner noted that, Kano state government had also paid outstanding fees of over 400 million naira for Kano students in Cyprus and France, in addition to other post graduate students that have benefited from scholarship opportunities.

She reiterated the state governments readiness to work asidiously, in uplifting the standard of education accordingly to global standards.

“400 million as part payment for students in Cyprus in addition to facilitating collection of certificates for students where 27 have passed their medical school exams and are currently undergoing housemanship”

In his remarks,Kano state commissioner of youths and I, Alhaji Kabiru Ado Lakwaya said the state government was committed to the development of education.

He maintained that, the state had set up a committee to compile a comprehensive report, on bursary allowances where millions of naira have been set aside to clear outstanding internal payments.

“We are witnessing the fulfilment of a promise by the state government as Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje gives prominence to the issue of education”

Also speaking,Kano state commissioner of science technology and Innovation Alhaji Idris Garba Anguwar Rimi, commended the state government for fulfilling it’s promise to support the student.

The commissioner who was represented by permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr. Binta Umar Bala said they would follow up to ensure the money is used judiciously.

Recieving the donation, Suwidi Sani said he would not relent in his efforts and would do everything possible to be among the best students in Bayero University Kano.

He commended governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, commissioners of higher education,youths and sports, his parents and teachers for encouraging and supporting him at all times.

He charged other students to rededicate themselves to their studies to achieve the desired objectives .

Suwidi a student of Governors college Kano, emerged the best during Kano state young scientists governorship award, as well as the 3rd in biology to clinch the ticket to represent kano state at Nigerian Young scientists presidential award held in Abuja.

The event attracted,commissioners, permanent secretaries,Nasarawa local government administrative secretary, top government officials, parents and teachers of Suwidi among others.
