The Kaduna State government has commenced the disbursement of N50,000 financial support to over 15,000 women in the state, aimed at boosting their businesses and promoting financial inclusion.
This initiative is part of the state’s efforts to domesticate the National Women’s Economic Empowerment Policy (WEE POLICY).
According to Hajiya Rabi Salisu, Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, the state government has registered over 20,000 women for the School Feeding Programme and has budgeted N200 million for the Kaduna State Women Empowered Programme (KADSWEP 3.0).
She emphasized the importance of women’s economic empowerment and encouraged beneficiaries to refund the soft loans to enable others to benefit.
The Development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) organized a one-day citizens’ engagement workshop to support the domestication of the WEE POLICY in Kaduna State.
The Executive Director, Dr. Judith-Ann Walker, represented by Malam Hassan Aliyu Karofi, highlighted the potential economic benefits of empowering women, citing a potential $2.5 billion investment and economic growth.
The workshop brought together representatives from civil society, traditional and religious leaders, women-led organizations, the private sector, and government ministries to promote women’s economic empowerment and domestication of the WEE POLICY in Kaduna State
