The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has commended the Federal High Court sitting in Kano for the conviction and sentencing of a 23-year-old man, Kabir Adamu, over the smuggling of cannabis into court premises.

In a statement, the agency said the conviction followed an incident in which cannabis sativa was concealed inside a loaf of bread and taken into the court for a defendant standing trial.

Kabir Adamu was apprehended on January 14, 2026, by officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service at the Kano State High Court, Miller Road, after the illicit substance was discovered during routine checks.

The suspect and the exhibit were subsequently handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.

Following diligent investigation, Kabir Adamu was convicted on April 22, 2026, by Justice SM Shuaibu of the Federal High Court, Court One, and sentenced to eight years imprisonment without an option of fine.
The Commander of NDLEA, Kano Strategic Command, DY Lawal, said the conviction demonstrates strong collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the judiciary in tackling drug-related crimes.

He noted that the ruling would serve as a deterrent to individuals attempting to smuggle illegal substances into courts, correctional facilities, and other sensitive locations, while also appreciating the leadership of Mohamed Buba Marwa for strengthening the agency’s operations nationwide.
