Kano Government Trains 150 Women on Waste Recycling for Empowerment

The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to creating enabling opportunities for youth and women empowerment through sustainable economic initiatives.

The Managing Director of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), Mohammad Khalil, disclosed this while flagging off the training of over 150 participants on waste recycling in the state.

He explained that the beneficiaries, mostly women, were selected from eight metropolitan local government areas across Kano to ensure broad-based impact.

According to him, the trainees were equipped with skills on how to collect waste materials from households at minimal cost, recycle them, and generate income to support themselves and their families.

Khalil further stated that the programme was designed to promote self-reliance among participants while also improving environmental sanitation.

He added that starter packs, including equipment and financial support, were provided to enable the trainees commence the recycling business immediately after the training.

The Chairman of the Waste Recyclers Association of Nigeria, Kano Chapter, Salisu Aliyu, commended the initiative and assured the association’s full support towards achieving its objectives, while some beneficiaries who spoke to Radio Nigeria described the programme as commendable and impactful.
