Six-Month-Old Baby Dies in Bunkure Fire Incident

A six-month-old baby has died following a fire outbreak in Jigawar Fulani settlement in Dundu district of Bunkure Local Government Area.

A report presented by the District Head of Bunkure, Alhaji Aminu Isa Umar, and read before the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umaru, stated that the fire broke out on April 9, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m.

 

The incident destroyed 13 residential rooms and killed 15 animals, including sheep, goats and rams. Property losses, including food items, were estimated at over hundreds thousand of Naira.

 

The Emir also received a separate report of another fire outbreak in Bakin Kasuwa area of Torankawa district, also in Bunkure Local Government Area, where six food storage facilities were destroyed.

Reacting to the incidents, the Emir of Rano expressed sympathy to those affected and prayed against future occurrences.

 

He directed that the Bunkure Local Government and the State Emergency Management Agency be notified to take necessary action and provide assistance to victims.

 

New District Head Appointed in Barnawa
Meanwhile, during a palace meeting held on Monday, April 20, 2026, the Emir appointed Alhaji Sabo Bala Barnawa as the new District Head of Barnawa in Bunkure Local Government Area.

 

The 51-year-old succeeds his late father, who died last month.
Emir Charges New Appointee on Leadership
While making the appointment, the Emir urged the new district head to promote peaceful coexistence, and prioritise healthcare, education and security in his community.

 

He also called on him to support efforts toward peace and stability in the emirate and the state.
