The Executive Chairman of Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State and Deputy National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Engr. Ikenna Toni Adikibe, has extended Eid al-Adha greetings to Muslim faithful across the 774 local government areas and area councils of Nigeria.

In a statement issued to mark Eid al-Adha 1447 AH, Adikibe described the festival as a sacred period that reflects mercy, sacrifice, obedience, and devotion to Allah, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail.

He said the celebration serves as a reminder of the values of unity, compassion, and reverence for the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, adding that the spirit of Eid should strengthen peaceful coexistence among Nigerians regardless of ethnic or regional differences.

The ALGON deputy president noted that the pillars of Islam, including Shahadah, Salat, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj, remain essential in promoting discipline, moral values, and communal harmony across the country.

Adikibe also called on local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and security stakeholders to ensure adequate protection of lives and property during the festive period. He stressed the need for proactive intelligence gathering, coordinated security patrols, and stronger community engagement to guarantee peaceful celebrations, especially in rural communities.

According to him, collaboration between citizens and security agencies would help secure markets, worship centres, and major roads, while ensuring that vulnerable families are not deprived of the joy of the season.

He urged Nigerians to allow the spirit of sacrifice and tolerance associated with Eid al-Adha to reflect in their daily interactions and commitment to grassroots development and national unity.

Adikibe prayed for Allah’s acceptance of the prayers, sacrifices, and good deeds of Muslim faithful, while wishing Nigerians a peaceful and joyful Eid celebration.
