The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Aminu Muazu Maifata, has urged residents of the state and Muslims across Nigeria to embrace the values of sacrifice, unity, and selflessness as they celebrate Eid al-Adha.
In a goodwill message issued in Lafia, Maifata said the festival reflects the obedience and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail to Allah, noting that the celebration goes beyond the ritual of animal sacrifice to include personal sacrifice, humility, and commitment to the common good.
The commissioner stated that Eid al-Adha offers an opportunity for Nigerians to let go of pride, greed, and selfishness, which he said often undermine trust and harmony within families, communities, and local governments.
He extended greetings to residents of the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State, including Akwanga, Awe, Doma, Karu, Keana, Keffi, Kokona, Lafia, Nasarawa, Nasarawa Eggon, Obi, Toto, and Wamba, praying for peace and stronger unity across the state.
Maifata also commended the administration of Abdullahi Sule for what he described as its local government-friendly policies and ongoing infrastructural development across the state. According to him, the projects are restoring confidence in governance at the grassroots and promoting peace and prosperity.
He called on Muslim faithful to make the Eid celebration a period of prayer, forgiveness, mercy, and service to humanity, irrespective of ethnic or religious differences.
Quoting the saying of Prophet Muhammad that “none of you truly believes until you love for your brother what you love for yourself,” the commissioner urged residents to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual respect in their daily activities.
Maifata prayed for Allah’s acceptance of the sacrifices and prayers of the faithful and asked for enduring peace, justice, and development in Nasarawa State and Nigeria as a whole.
