DIG Gumel (Rtd) Appears Before Jigawa Screening Committee for House of Representatives Seat

A retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Gumel, has appeared before the screening committee in Jigawa State seeking clearance to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives.

Addressing members of the committee, Gumel said he brings 34 years of uninterrupted service to the country, during which he contributed to community stability, security, and youth engagement.

He explained that his career was marked by active involvement in peace-building initiatives, mentoring of young people, and facilitating access to opportunities within his capacity.

The retired police officer stated that if given the mandate, he would deploy the constitutional powers of the legislature to promote meaningful development through lawmaking and oversight.

Gumel pledged to champion legislation that would institutionalize skills acquisition, youth empowerment, and rehabilitation programmes to move young people from vulnerability to productivity.

He also assured the committee of his commitment to supporting policies that would strengthen collaboration between communities and security agencies, as well as boost agriculture and small businesses across the constituency.

According to him, his approach would focus on practical representation, inclusive development, and accountable leadership.

Gumel emphasized that he is not new to service, adding that he intends to build on his lifetime experience to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

The Committee was lead  by  Barr Ali Sa’ad Birnin Kudu first Civilian Governor of Jigawa State with other Distinguished prominent personalities stakeholders from the state.
