The Dr Dahiru Muhammad Hashim Foundation, an NGO, on Saturday empowered 1,426 women and youths in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State with start-up kits and cash support.
Presenting the items in Kano, the foundation’s founder, Dr Dahiru Muhammad-Hashim, said the gesture was aimed at helping beneficiaries become self-reliant and improve their livelihoods.
Muhammad-Hashim, who is also the Kano State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, said the intervention was part of the foundation’s 2026 Special Empowerment Programme and the launch of the Renewed Hope Youth Engagement Initiative.
“We distributed sewing machines to 106 beneficiaries, 100 grinding machines, 100 spaghetti-making machines with flour, and 20 motorcycles.
“100 beneficiaries received job appointments, while ₦20 million in cash support was distributed to 1,000 beneficiaries,” the foundation’s founder said.
He added that the items would enable beneficiaries to run their businesses effectively and achieve self-reliance.
Muhammad-Hashim, who also serves as acting Commissioner for Water Resources, pledged to sustain the programme for residents of Gobirawa Ward and Dala LGA.
He assured residents that Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf’s administration remained committed to improving water supply and building a more sustainable, environmentally resilient Kano State.
Dala LGA Chairman, Alhaji Dayyabu Ahmad-Maiturare commended the commissioner and the foundation for the initiative and urged beneficiaries to use the items wisely to improve their economic wellbeing.
Speaking for the beneficiaries, Hajiya Zulaihat Ahmad-Sherif thanked the foundation and pledged to make good use of the sewing machine she received. (NAN)
