Former President of the United Nations General Assembly, Prof Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, will chair the first international conference on mass communication at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.

The conference, scheduled to begin on 7 June, will open with a pre-conference lecture by Prof Fatma El-Sayed of Cairo University, Egypt, at 1pm on Sunday.
Muhammad-Bande, a former vice-chancellor of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, said he was honoured to chair the event on media and its intersection with artificial intelligence in a changing digital world.
The opening ceremony will hold on Monday, 8 June, at the university auditorium. The vice-chancellor, who is the chief host, said the university was ready to host the international academic community.
The organising committee said the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council, Prof Attahiru Jega, would also attend the opening ceremony with members of the council.
A highlight of the conference will be the keynote lecture by double Fulbright scholar, Prof Kehbuma Langmia of Howard University, Washington DC.
The theme is “Media and National Development in the Era of Artificial Intelligence”. Lead paper presenters and panellists drawn from Nigerian universities and other stakeholders are expected to participate.
The Department of Mass Communication will also unveil the maiden edition of its journal, _Alkalami Journal of Communication and Media Studies_.
The four-day conference is expected to provide an engaging platform for visitors and the academic community.
