The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, says its operatives have foiled an attempted kidnapping and cattle rustling incident in Kiru Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Kano.
Abdullahi said the incident occurred at Bakin Komau in the Dangora area of Kiru LGA when armed assailants attacked a shepherd, inflicted serious injuries on him and abducted two of his children while attempting to rustle livestock.
According to him, NSCDC personnel stationed around the nearby Dansoshiya Forest swiftly responded after receiving a distress call and engaged the criminals in a gun duel.
He said the attackers, overwhelmed by the superior firepower and response of the operatives, abandoned the kidnapped victims and fled into the forest with suspected gunshot injuries.
“The prompt intervention of our operatives led to the rescue of the abducted persons and the successful prevention of the cattle rustling attempt,” he said.
The spokesman identified the rescued victims as Abubakar Saleh, 36, and Muhd Inuwa Dille, 30, adding that they had since been reunited with their family.
He further stated that the injured shepherd, 70-year-old Alhaji Saleh, received immediate medical attention following the attack.
Abdullahi explained that the NSCDC personnel were deployed in the area to provide security for the ongoing dam construction project as well as to protect grazing reserves and farming communities from criminal activities.
He quoted the State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, as reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property and critical national assets across the state.
The command also urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to facilitate prompt responses to security threats and criminal activities.
