61 Inmates Complete Qur’an Recitation Programme in Kano Custodial Centre

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, says 61 inmates at the Kurmawa Custodial Centre have successfully completed the recitation of the Holy Qur’an under its rehabilitation and religious reformation programme.

This is contained in a statement issued  in Kano by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Lawan K/Nassarawa.

According to the statement, the beneficiaries comprise 55 male inmates and six female inmates who completed the Qur’anic recitation programme.

The command said many of the inmates had little or no knowledge of Qur’anic reading and memorisation before their admission into the custodial centre, but successfully completed the programme through structured religious instruction and dedicated mentorship provided during their incarceration.

It noted that, to encourage the graduates and support their reintegration into society, the NCoS, in collaboration with the Chokali Humanitarian Foundation, presented them with relief items, including new clothing, prayer mats, blankets and cash assistance to ease their transition after serving their custodial terms.

The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ahmed Yusuf Lakpene, commended the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, for his leadership and commitment to strengthening educational, vocational and moral rehabilitation programmes across custodial centres in the country.

Lakpene said the initiative reflected the service’s commitment to reforming inmates and equipping them with the moral and spiritual values needed for successful reintegration into the society
