The Kano State Consumer Protection Council says it has seized illicit food items, beverages and other consumable products valued at more than ₦300 Million, preventing them from entering markets across the state.
The Director-General of the Council, Dr. Ibrahim Garba, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Kano on the agency’s recent enforcement activities.
He said the operation formed part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to safeguard public health by ensuring that only safe, verified and quality products are available to consumers.
Dr. Garba explained that the confiscated items comprised unverified, adulterated and illicit food products, drinks and other consumables that failed to meet the required safety and quality standards.
He noted that allowing such products into the market could pose serious health risks to residents and undermine consumer confidence.
According to him, the Council has intensified surveillance, routine inspections and enforcement operations across markets, warehouses and distribution outlets to identify and remove unsafe products from circulation.
He Maintained that the agency would continue to collaborate with relevant regulatory and security agencies to strengthen consumer protection in the state.
The Director-General reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to protecting the lives and well-being of Kano residents by ensuring that illicit and uncertified food items, beverages and other consumables do not find their way into the state’s markets.
Dr Ibrahim Garba urged traders, distributors and importers to comply with established safety regulations, warning that anyone found dealing in unsafe or counterfeit products would face the full weight of the law
