The Kano State Government has formalised a strategic working agreement with Certis Nigeria Ltd. to modernise the waste management system in the state.

The agreement was reached through the state Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, as part of efforts to transform waste management from a traditional social service into a sustainable and commercially viable sector.

In a statement, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr Dahiru M. Hashim, said the partnership was designed to establish a more efficient and sustainable waste management framework.
Hashim said the initiative would support the development of waste management infrastructure while creating opportunities for private sector participation and economic growth.

According to him, the move is aimed at repositioning waste management as an economically productive sector capable of generating value while addressing environmental challenges.

The commissioner said the government remained committed to developing innovative approaches to waste management and environmental protection in line with its broader sustainability objectives.

He added that the partnership with Certis Nigeria Ltd. would contribute to the state’s efforts to improve waste management practices and promote a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.

The commissioner called on relevant stakeholders to support the initiative and contribute to the development of a sustainable waste management system in the state.
