Admin Rescue teams are searching for 17 people missing after a Vietnamese cargo ship, Khoi Nguyen 18, sank following severe weather conditions in the South China Sea.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the vessel, which was carrying 62 people, encountered difficulties while sailing through rough weather.
Vietnamese rescue officials, with assistance from Chinese rescue forces, have rescued 45 people, while efforts are continuing to locate the remaining 17 passengers.
The incident reportedly occurred near Fiery Cross Reef in the Spratly Islands, an area claimed by both China and Vietnam.
Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to locate the missing persons and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
