Senator Urges Military Deployment to Restore Peace in Niger Community

Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District, has appealed for calm following the recent communal clashes in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State, urging the Federal Government to deploy additional security personnel to restore peace.

In a statement issued on Friday in Minna, the senator expressed sympathy to families of those who lost their lives in the violence and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

He also called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths, women and other stakeholders to promote peace and avoid actions capable of worsening the crisis.

Musa said violence had never been a solution to disagreements, noting that it only resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property and setbacks to development. He urged young people in the area to resist provocation and embrace dialogue, patience and the rule of law.

The lawmaker recalled that the diverse ethnic communities in Rafi had coexisted peacefully for generations, sharing markets, farmlands and places of worship.

He commended the Niger State Government, security agencies, traditional institutions and community leaders for their efforts to restore normalcy, while urging them to remain impartial and ensure that those responsible for the violence were brought to justice.

Musa further appealed to the Federal Government to urgently deploy adequate military personnel and other security forces to Rafi Local Government Area to safeguard lives and property, restore peace and prevent the crisis from spreading to neighbouring communities.

He also urged all parties involved to lay down their arms and support ongoing efforts to rebuild trust and peaceful coexistence.
