Kano Information Commissioner Wins National Crisis Communicator Award

Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has won the Crisis Communicator Award at the 6th National Spokespersons Awards held in Abuja.

Waiya received the award at Nicon Luxury Hotel during the 4th Economic Confidential Lecture and 6th National Spokespersons Awards organised by Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR). The event was themed, “Anti-Corruption Reforms, Economic Stability and Effective Communication.”

The commissioner was recognised for providing steady and verified information during crises, promoting calm and strengthening public confidence in government actions. He attributed the honour to the support of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and dedicated the award to the governor and the state administration.

Waiya said the recognition was significant as it marked the first time a recipient from the North-West had won a National Spokespersons Award since its inception, and the first time the honour had come to Kano State. Chairman of the 2026 jury, Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, said the awards promoted professionalism, effective communication and public trust, noting that 171 nominations were received, with 30 finalists selected across 15 categories.

In his keynote address, ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, described corruption as a global challenge that undermines economies, fuels inequality and threatens national security. He said the awards and lecture provided an important platform for strengthening accountability, communication and public confidence in institutions.
