Kano Police Arrest Five Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Illegal Firearm

The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested five suspected armed robbers, recovered an illegal firearm and ammunition, and apprehended suspected cattle and livestock thieves in separate operations across the state.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, saying the arrests were recorded within 24 hours as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence-led policing and community engagement.

According to the statement, operatives of Dorayi Babba Police Division, acting on information from a member of the public, intercepted a suspicious parcel at Rijiyar Zaki Motor Park on Aug. 13.

It said a Tokarev pistol loaded with 48 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered from the parcel, adding that the suspect confessed to purchasing the firearm and ammunition from another state and forwarding them to another person.

The Command said investigation was ongoing to identify and arrest other persons allegedly involved in the illegal arms supply chain.

In another operation, five suspected armed robbers were arrested at Jajaye Village in Rogo Local Government Area following credible intelligence.

The suspects, identified as Basiru Ibrahim, 25; Saidu Madaki, 23; Sa’adu Ibrahim, 25; Lawan Yusuf, 24; and Muktar Salisu, 21, were allegedly linked to four cases involving criminal trespass, conspiracy and armed robbery.

Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects had allegedly inflicted grievous injuries on victims and stolen about five motorcycles and other valuables.

The Command also reported the recovery of a stolen cow and ram in Gaya, following complaints lodged by Hamisu Garba of Yanduji and Maikudi Adamu of Jobe.

It said patrol operatives intercepted two suspects, identified as Karimu Mamman and Madama, in possession of the animals, while further investigation led to the arrest of two additional suspected members of the syndicate.

The Police Public Relations Officer said the suspects would be prosecuted upon completion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended residents who provided information that led to the arrests and urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

He assured residents that the Command would sustain intelligence gathering, community policing and inter-agency collaboration to enhance security across Kano State.
