The Kano State Multi-Joint Task Force on Drug Abuse and Other Related Crimes has arrested 28 suspects and dismantled five suspected drug joints during an operation in parts of Rimin Gado and Tofa Local Government Areas of the state.
The operation, which was conducted on Friday, August 7, 2026, was personally led by the Chairman of the Task Force, Muhuyi Magaji, in Rimin Gado, the headquarters of Rimin Gado Local Government Area, and Doka in Tofa Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary of the Committee, Dr Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, the operation also led to the recovery of various illicit substances, while investigations had commenced to determine the roles of the suspects.
Speaking on the exercise, Muhuyi said the operation was part of efforts to demonstrate the Task Force’s commitment to enforcing the law without fear or favour across the state.
He said, “We are treating every community equally and enforcing the law without bias. Our guiding principle is ‘Kano First,’ and we are determined to ensure a peaceful, prosperous and drug-free state in line with the vision of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.”
Muhuyi explained that beginning the operation in his hometown was deliberate, stressing that sanitising his own community was a symbolic first step in a wider campaign that would cover all the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
He said the operation combined direct enforcement with intelligence gathering and investigative follow-up, adding that suspects found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Task Force chairman further said the campaign would not be limited to arrests and dismantling of drug networks, as the committee would also strengthen preventive and rehabilitative measures through collaboration with traditional and community leaders, regulatory agencies, health institutions and educational partners.
He stressed that legitimate businesses and law-abiding traders were not the targets of the operation, saying the objective was to protect communities and create a safe environment where lawful businesses could thrive without the damaging effects of drug trafficking and abuse.
Muhuyi urged members of the public to support the campaign by providing credible information on suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking and substance abuse.
He assured residents that the Task Force would sustain its operations across the state while maintaining professionalism and ensuring the protection of the health and security of Kano residents.
