Wike: I Fled Abuja Restaurant After 50 People Surrounded Me

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has recounted how he was forced to hurriedly leave a restaurant in Abuja after more than 50 people surrounded him while he was eating without his security aides.

Wike disclosed this in a video shared by TVC, where he explained that he had visited the restaurant with his driver but deliberately went inside without his security details.

According to the minister, he had barely settled down before a large number of people recognised him and began approaching him to greet and shake hands with him.

He said the situation made him uncomfortable and raised security concerns, forcing him to abandon his meal and leave the restaurant.

Wike said, “There was a day I went to one of the restaurants to eat. I didn’t go with security. I told my driver, just drive us; let me go and eat.

“I just entered the restaurant and before I knew it, over 50 people came to me. I didn’t know what to do again. People kept coming to shake me. Of course, you know it is not safe.

“So I told the restaurant staff that I will come back. Immediately I came out, I saw some people waiting for me to give them money.”

The minister’s account highlights the security and public-pressure challenges that often confront high-profile public officials when moving around without security escorts.

The video, according to the report, captures Wike making the disclosure between the 56-second and 1:55-minute marks.
