NDLEA, Kano Task Force Pledge Stronger Collaboration Against Drug Abuse

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, and the Kano State Multi-Joint Task Force Committee on Drug Abuse and Other Related Crimes have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in the campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the state.

The Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, Dahiru Lawal, made the commitment while receiving the Chairman of the Multi-Joint Task Force Committee, Muhuyi Magaji, and members of the committee during a courtesy visit to the command in Kano.

Speaking during the visit, Magaji said the engagement was aimed at familiarising members of the committee with the NDLEA command and reinforcing cooperation with the agency. He described the NDLEA as a critical institution with statutory prosecutorial powers to tackle drug-related offences and pledged the committee’s support for its mandate.

He stressed that advocacy and community sensitisation remained key to reducing substance abuse across Kano State.

In his remarks, Lawal described the task force as an important stakeholder in the fight against drug abuse, noting that sustainable success required a combination of law enforcement, prevention, public education and community participation.

He called for greater involvement of religious, traditional and community leaders, as well as targeted awareness campaigns for vulnerable groups.

The commander also highlighted the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, initiated by the Chairman and Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), as well as the introduction of drug integrity testing in tertiary institutions, saying the initiatives were designed to discourage drug abuse through preventive measures.

He further commended the establishment of the NDLEA–Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria committee to address the diversion of controlled substances.

Both parties pledged to sustain collaboration through enforcement, advocacy and public enlightenment to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.

They also expressed appreciation to Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State for constituting the Multi-Joint Task Force Committee as part of the state’s efforts to address substance abuse. The visit ended with the presentation of a plaque to Magaji in recognition of his commitment to the anti-drug campaign.
