Troops Ambush Boko Haram Tax Collectors, Recover Weapons in Borno

Troops of the 226 Battalion under Sector 4 of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled an alleged Boko Haram tax collection operation, recovering arms and ammunition after an ambush in Borno State.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the operation on Friday via his X account, the troops acted on credible intelligence that suspected Boko Haram members were moving within the battalion’s area of responsibility to collect illegal levies from herders.

He said soldiers, working alongside local hunters, laid an ambush along the Gaba–Dzangola high ground in Guyaku District at about 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, August 6.
Makama stated that contact was made with the suspected insurgents at about 4:42 a.m. on Friday, leading to a gun battle that forced them to abandon their mission and flee into the surrounding area.

A follow-up search of the scene reportedly led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 15 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one locally made pistol and three rounds of 9mm ammunition.

He added that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation, which he said forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to disrupt insurgents’ movement and dismantle illegal taxation networks that allegedly finance terrorist activities in parts of Borno State.

The troops were said to have returned safely to base after completing the operation.
