Veteran journalists in Kano State have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting ethical journalism, professionalism and responsible media practice as part of efforts to strengthen public confidence in the media.
The resolution was reached during the congress of the KANO LEAGUE OF VETERAN JOURNALISTS KALVEJ held at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano, where members deliberated on strategies to enhance professional standards through capacity building, public enlightenment and strict adherence to journalism ethics.
Speaking at the congress, the Chairman of the leaque Ahmed Aminu, said the body was established to promote responsible use of language in journalism, particularly in political reporting, where accuracy, fairness and professionalism remain essential.
He said the association comprised seasoned journalists with decades of experience across radio, television and newspaper organisations, adding that members had resolved to deepen collaboration among media institutions through information sharing, professional mentoring and the establishment of branches across Kano State.
Aminu said the congress also resolved to discourage the use of inflammatory, misleading and false language, especially during political activities, stressing that journalists had a duty to report accurately and uphold the credibility of the profession.
He said the association would organise regular training programmes for journalists and media practitioners on the proper use of language in writing, broadcasting and translation, in line with the guidelines of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and other relevant professional standards.
According to him, the initiative is expected to improve the quality of journalism in Kano State and reinforce ethical reporting across all media platforms.
The congress was attended by veteran journalists drawn from different parts of Kano State.
