Admin More than 5,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano North Senatorial District have defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in a development involving supporters of Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau I. Jibrin.
The defectors were led by grassroots mobiliser, Mustapha Yahaya Shuwaki, who announced his defection alongside supporters from Bagwai and Shanono Local Government Areas.
Shuwaki said the decision followed consultations with supporters, community leaders and political associates across the district.
He cited concerns over insecurity, potable water, healthcare, education, electricity and road infrastructure as some of the issues influencing their decision.
The development came barely 24 hours after Shuwaki and his supporters were received into the APC by Barau.
A Kano North NDC leader, Muhammad Garba, who received the defectors, described the development as a political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
