The Zamfara State Police Command says it has successfully repelled two separate attacks by suspected armed bandits in Maru and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas of the state.
The Command disclosed that the incidents occurred on April 9, 2026, involving coordinated responses by police operatives and local vigilante groups.
According to the statement, at about 7:30 a.m., a group of armed bandits riding on about 10 motorcycles and wielding AK-47 rifles engaged police personnel at a pin-down point along the Kadauri/Kizawa axis in Maru LGA.
Police operatives responded promptly, engaging the attackers in a gun duel and forcing them to retreat into the forest with suspected gunshot injuries.
During the encounter, a member of the Kadauri Vigilante Group sustained a gunshot injury and was taken to the General Hospital in Maru for treatment. Authorities said normalcy has been restored in the area, with patrols ongoing
In a related development, at about 1:45 p.m. the same day, suspected bandits attacked Yar Galma village in Bukkuyum LGA, firing sporadically and causing panic among residents.
A joint team of police personnel and vigilantes mobilized to the scene and repelled the attackers after a gun battle, forcing them to flee into nearby forests with injuries.
However, four residents of the village sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries and were evacuated to the General Hospital in Bukkuyum for medical attention.
The police said normalcy has also been restored in the area.
The Zamfara State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to support security agencies with credible and timely information.
