The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested 248 suspects for various offences, including armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, and violent disturbances, within one month of intensified security operations across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano.
CP Bakori explained that the Command also rescued three kidnapped victims during the period under review.
He said the arrests, recorded between April 20 and May 20, 2026, were achieved through intelligence-led policing and collaboration with other security agencies, stressing that the suspects include 18 armed robbers, five suspected kidnappers, 32 drug dealers, and 149 individuals linked to violent public disturbances.
The Police Commissioner further revealed that a significant cache of weapons and illicit substances was recovered, including firearms, cutlasses, knives, axes, bows and arrows, and large quantities of suspected cannabis and other drugs, alongside stolen items such as vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, phones, and SIM cards.
CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori noted that although the state remains relatively peaceful, security concerns were recorded in parts of the metropolis such as Fagge, IBB Road, and Hotoro, as well as along the Kano-Katsina border, prompting intensified operations, increased deployment, and joint task force actions to restore order.
He commended the Kano State Government under Abba Kabir Yusuf for its support and urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring Kano remains safe for all residents.
