Distinguished Senator Alphonsus Ubanesse Igbeke has called on Muslims across Nigeria to uphold the values of sacrifice, humility, peace, and brotherhood as they celebrate this year’s Eid al-Adha.
In an Eid message issued in Abuja, Senator Igbeke said the festival goes beyond ceremonial observance and should inspire believers to embrace the spiritual lessons of obedience, compassion, and selflessness as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail.
The senator noted that Eid al-Adha symbolizes unwavering submission to the will of Allah, stressing that true faith is demonstrated during moments of sacrifice and surrender. According to him, the Qurban represents not only a religious ritual but also the need for inner purification and the rejection of pride, greed, and selfishness.
Senator Igbeke, who is the Lead Consultant to the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria and Chairman of the Technical Working Group of the ALGON National Gas Expansion Programme under the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources-Gas, urged leaders at all levels to place service, justice, and compassion above personal interests.
Quoting the saying of Prophet Muhammad that “none of you truly believes until you love for your brother what you love for yourself,” he said the message of Islam promotes justice, mercy, peaceful coexistence, and goodwill toward all people regardless of differences in religion or ethnicity.
He prayed that the Eid celebration would strengthen tolerance, accountability, and peaceful relations among Nigerians, while urging citizens to carry the spirit of sacrifice into their daily conduct.
“May Allah accept the sacrifices of the Ummah, purify our intentions, and make us instruments of His peace on earth. Eid Mubarak,” the senator stated.
