Tsakuwa Community Honours 11 for Outstanding Service, Raises N2.1m for Development

Residents of Tsakuwa community in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State have honoured 11 individuals for their exceptional contributions to the development of the town during the 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Tsakuwa Mufarka Sustainable Development Association.

The event, held at Central Primary School, Tsakuwa, recognised community leaders, philanthropists, professionals and volunteers whose efforts have positively impacted education, security, healthcare and other aspects of community development. Among those honoured were the Sarkin Tsakuwa, Alhaji Isma’ila Santali Tsakuwa; the association’s chairman, Alhaji Tasiu Alhassan Tsakuwa; and retired headmaster Alhaji Mahmuda Shehu, who continues to offer voluntary teaching services to pupils in the community.

Also honoured was Alhaji Umar Muhammad Banupe, a Nupe businessman resident in Tsakuwa, in recognition of his significant contributions to the growth and development of the town. Other recipients included the Chairman of the Northwest Development Commission, Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, Commander of the Gombe State Hisbah Command, Malam Rabiu Idris, ARTV journalist Nasiru Yusuf Ibrahim, founder of the association Malam Ibrahim Almustapha Sani and Sulaiman Salisu Babah.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Sarkin Tsakuwa commended the leadership of the association for its commitment to improving the living conditions of residents and urged members to sustain their efforts. In his remarks, the chairman of the association, Alhaji Tasiu Alhassan Tsakuwa, said the group remained focused on supporting education, security and healthcare initiatives in the community through collective contributions by members.

A financial report presented by a member of the association, Malam Abdullahi Wagadi, revealed that the organisation generated N6.56 million through monthly contributions over the past year. He disclosed that the funds were used to support volunteer teachers and vigilantes, renovate the community police outpost, fence the Eid prayer ground, provide scholarships, purchase instructional materials and assist vulnerable residents with healthcare needs.

The AGM also featured a fundraising session during which philanthropists and stakeholders donated N2.143 million to support the association’s activities. Alhaji Umar Muhammad Banupe and Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawaki led the donations with N500,000 each, while several other community leaders and stakeholders made substantial contributions. Participants at the event praised the association for its grassroots development efforts and pledged continued support for its programmes.
