The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has charged officers and men of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to uphold integrity, professionalism and the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.
Bakori gave the charge during a capacity-building lecture for CID personnel at the Police Officers’ Mess, Bompai, Kano, organised to reinforce discipline, professionalism and public trust in police investigations and operations.
The commissioner stressed that effective criminal investigation must be anchored on integrity, due process and respect for human rights, urging officers to shun corrupt practices, avoid illegal arrests and unlawful detention, and ensure that all actions are carried out in accordance with the law.
He also directed personnel to adhere strictly to established investigative procedures and conduct themselves in ways that would enhance public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and strengthen trust in the criminal justice system.
Bakori reaffirmed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Ridwan Disu, on prioritising personnel welfare, including insurance coverage and improved working conditions, and urged officers to reciprocate through dedication, diligence and professionalism.
The commissioner further cautioned against unprofessional conduct, particularly the misuse of social media, noting that such behaviour could undermine public confidence and the integrity of the command. He also commended the department for its role in investigating and prosecuting crimes and called for sustained synergy with other police units.
Earlier, the Head of the Department, DCP Shehu Idris, commended the commissioner for his commitment to personnel development and strategic leadership.
The event featured an interactive question-and-answer session and ended with a renewed commitment by CID personnel to uphold the values and directives outlined by the command leadership.
