NNPC Foundation Donates MRI Machine to National Orthopaedic Hospital Dala

The NNPC Foundation has donated and handed over a 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Kano, to enhance diagnostic services and improve healthcare delivery in Northern Nigeria.

Speaking during the commissioning and handover ceremony in Kano, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Isa Nuruddeen, commended the NNPC Foundation for what he described as a timely intervention aimed at strengthening the hospital’s diagnostic capacity.

Nuruddeen said the installation of the modern MRI machine symbolised renewed hope for the healthcare sector, assuring that the hospital would make optimal use of the equipment to achieve its intended objectives. He noted that the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, serves patients from across Northern Nigeria and neighbouring countries, making the intervention particularly significant.

The Executive Vice-President, Business Services, NNPC Ltd., Mrs Sophia Mbakwe, represented by the Executive Director, Programme Management, NNPC Foundation, Mrs Rose Okonkwo, said the donation was aimed at addressing critical healthcare challenges and improving access to advanced diagnostic services. She said the foundation had continued to implement interventions across various sectors to improve the wellbeing of Nigerians.

Okonkwo noted that the healthcare sector continued to face significant pressure, particularly in the area of access to modern diagnostic facilities, adding that the NNPC Foundation remained committed to supporting institutions to bridge existing gaps and enhance service delivery.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the NNPC Foundation, Mrs Emmanuella Arukwe, represented by the Executive Director, Programme Development, Dr Bala David, said the intervention was designed to address challenges associated with medical diagnosis. He disclosed that, in addition to installing the MRI machine, the foundation had trained personnel who would operate and maintain the equipment to ensure sustainability.

David said the foundation would continue to implement programmes in its thematic areas of healthcare, education, agriculture and other sectors that contribute to national development.

Similarly, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mr Bashir Bayo Ojulari, represented by Arukwe, said the company remained committed to its corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians. He noted that the foundation had executed similar projects in orthopaedic hospitals in Lagos and Enugu and was extending the gesture to Kano to strengthen diagnostic services.

In his remarks, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran, described the donation as timely and impactful. He lauded the NNPC Foundation for the intervention and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to prioritising healthcare through investments aimed at improving the health status of residents.

The event was attended by senior government officials, healthcare professionals, representatives of NNPC Ltd. and other stakeholders in the health sector.
