Gov. Yusuf Appoints Dr. Aminu Magashi Co-Chair of Kano Anti-Drug Abuse Task Force

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed renowned public health expert, Dr. Aminu Garba Magashi as Co-Chair of the Kano State Anti-Drug Abuse Task Force as part of renewed efforts to tackle substance abuse and related social vices across the state.

 

 

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who said the move reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with public health professionals, civil society organisations and other stakeholders in addressing the growing menace of drug abuse, particularly among youths.

 

 

Governor Yusuf also disclosed plans by the state government to establish a mobile court to ensure the speedy prosecution of drug-related offences and other social crimes. He said the initiative is aimed at enhancing law enforcement, ensuring swift justice and deterring criminal activities associated with substance abuse.

 

 

The governor expressed confidence that Dr. Magashi’s extensive experience in public health policy, social protection and community development would strengthen the effectiveness of the task force in achieving its mandate of reducing drug abuse and safeguarding communities across Kano State.

 

 

As part of efforts to further reinforce the task force, the governor approved the inclusion of a representative of the Kano State Sharia Commission in its membership to ensure its operations align with Islamic principles. The government said the measures form part of broader efforts to improve public safety and protect residents from the social and economic consequences of substance abuse.
