Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have recorded fresh successes in ongoing counter-terrorism operations across Zamfara and Katsina states, killing a notorious bandit commander, Alhaji Tukur, and foiling planned attacks by criminal elements.
In a statement issued by the operation’s spokesperson, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, the military said Alhaji Tukur, a younger brother of the notorious bandit kingpin Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye, was killed after troops repelled an attack on farmers in the Dogon Kade area of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The statement added that in Katsina State, troops engaged terrorists in the Danmusa area, recovering two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a motorcycle during the operation.
Similarly, the Nigerian Air Force carried out precision airstrikes against a convoy of about 300 terrorists travelling on motorcycles en route to launch an attack on the Gummi area of Zamfara State.
According to the report, three fighter aircraft conducted the strikes after receiving credible intelligence on the terrorists’ movement. The operation reportedly killed many of the terrorists and disrupted their planned attack.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations aimed at neutralising terrorist groups and restoring lasting peace and security across Nigeria’s North-West region.
