Four persons were trapped on Friday after a two-storey building under construction collapsed along Sultan Road in Kano metropolis.

The incident occurred at about 9:00 a.m., according to eyewitnesses and workers at the construction site.

Sources said three of the trapped persons had been rescued from the rubble as of the time of filing this report, while emergency responders were continuing efforts to rescue a fourth victim still believed to be trapped beneath the debris.

Eyewitnesses said construction workers noticed signs that the building was becoming unstable while they were working on the upper floor and immediately evacuated the structure, narrowly escaping the collapse.

However, four persons, including a security guard and a commercial tricycle (Keke Napep) driver, were reportedly trapped when the building gave way.

One of the construction workers, Shu’aibu Yaro, confirmed the incident, saying the supervising engineer observed signs of structural failure and directed workers to leave the building before it collapsed.

He added that three victims, including the security guard and one of his friends, were rescued and taken to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital, Kano, for treatment after sustaining injuries.

Rescue officials were still at the scene at the time of filing this report, continuing efforts to locate and rescue the remaining trapped victim.
