The Kano State Government has arrested three persons over the alleged unauthorised demolition of the old Watari Bridge in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner for Lands,Abduljabbar Umar, disclosed this when he paid an unscheduled visit to the site where the bridge was being demolished.
Umar said the three suspects were arrested while allegedly carrying out the demolition of the old bridge without government approval.
He said the bridge was constructed more than 50 years ago and had served as a route used by herders to move their livestock, as well as linking residents of Rogo Local Government Area with some neighbouring local government areas.
The commissioner said the government had taken possession of the bulldozer being used to demolish the bridge and would expand investigations to identify other persons involved in the alleged act.
He said those found culpable would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with the law.
Umar urged members of the public to report suspicious activities or developments they did not understand to the government for proper investigation and necessary action.
