16 Rescued Alive as Building Collapses in Kano

At least 16 persons have been rescued alive after a residential building collapsed at Dan Dishe, Kwanar Yashi, in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

Three of the victims were reportedly rescued unconscious and handed over for further medical attention.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday.

Abdullahi said the Fire Service received an emergency call at about 4:32 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, reporting the collapse of a residential building in the area.

He said personnel from the Fire Service headquarters were immediately mobilised to the scene to commence rescue operations.

According to him, upon arrival, the rescue team discovered that a residential building measuring approximately 20 by 30 feet had collapsed.

He said the operation led to the successful rescue of 16 persons trapped in the collapsed structure, while three of the victims were found unconscious.

The statement added that all the rescued victims were handed over to Usman Ibrahim, identified as their father’s brother, for further necessary attention.

The cause of the building collapse was not immediately disclosed as authorities continued to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
