The Youth Employability and Skills Project (YESP), in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and Yaba College of Technology, has commenced training of youths selected from three Northern states.
The Project Coordinator, Dr. Funmilayo Doherty, disclosed this at the launch and induction training on Global Record Book (GRP), National Skills Qualification (NSQ) and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), held in Kano.
Doherty said the initiative was designed to equip young people with relevant skills that would enable them to become productive and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
She said participants were selected from Kano, Jigawa and Sokoto states, adding that the project was expected to reach 3,400 young people across 30 selected states in the country.
According to her, YESP is being implemented by Yaba College of Technology in partnership with UNICEF and ITF to strengthen youth employability and promote skills development.
In his remarks, the UNICEF Representative at the Kano Field Office, Mr. Shafeeq Ur Rehman, said the partnership reflected a shared commitment to investing in young people as drivers of economic growth, innovation and sustainable development.
Also speaking, the Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Abdul, represented by the Deputy Rector, Dr. Ismail Badmus, said the institution was proud to be associated with the initiative.
