The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has arrested suspected illegal NIN enrolment operators in Gwagwalada and other locations as it intensifies efforts to tackle unauthorised enrolment, illegal data modification and extortion.
A statement by the Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke notes that the Commission’s Inspectorate Compliance and Enforcement Unit also seized equipment allegedly used by the operators during the enforcement exercise.
The statement adds that the Director-General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has reiterated the Commission’s zero tolerance for extortion and other unethical practices.
It further emphasises that NIN enrolment must be carried out only at approved centres, while requests for data modification should be processed through the Commission’s authorised self-service platform.
The Commission urges NIN holders to use only approved channels and download the NINAuth application, which provides additional security features, including NIN protection and access to NIN slip printing.
For enquiries and further information, members of the public can contact the Commission through its toll-free line: 0800 0616 462.
