The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, HYPPADEC, says many host communities are still living without basic social amenities after their sacrifice to the nation.
The Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa made this known at the opening ceremony of a five day training workshop on leadership and strategic management put together by the commission and the Centre for Management Development, CMD, for management and senior staff of the commission, in Abuja.
Alhaji Yelwa stressed that the commission represents the Federal and local communities to make sure that no community is left unattended to.
“Some of the communities are suffering and have not settled. They have sacrificed a lot yet they don’t have power supply, we are going to use the state and other offices to ensure that they are captured” he added.
They are suffering neglect, lack of water, schools, and insecurity, they are communities that cannot resettle because of insecurity”
He further explained that through the training, host communities would benefit from the expertise and experience of staff as it will kick start operations of the commission.
” This training is to prepare our staff adequately for the task ahead. Before this, we have had a training program for all staff, when they were welcomed with an induction program for all the state offices.
He further explained that by the year 2027, host communities would be the best place to live.
‘in the next five years, with all the entitlements available and resources due to it, if given, the environments would be happy. Our expectations is that the commission will be able to address the short term challenges of the communities, which involves access to clean water, basic health care, education and rural electrification program.
Earlier the Director General of the Centre of Management Development, CMD, Mr. Bitrus Chinoko represented by Mr. Mohammed Nuhu emphasized that the essence of the training was to improve the capacity of participants towards efficient service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Director Finance and Administration, HYPPADEC, Haruna Gabi appreciated the commission for equipping its staff for the task ahead and expressed optimism that all the participants would be enriched with admistrative techniques that will aid them to deliver effectively.
